For Erin and Alec’s engagement session, we headed to Mount Herman Trail near Colorado Springs for a beautiful golden-hour session surrounded by the rugged beauty of the Colorado mountains. Their elegant white outfits created a striking contrast against the rocky landscape, giving the entire session a classic Colorado feel.
And, of course, they brought their Australian Shepherd, Theo, along for the adventure.
A Classy Colorado Mountain Engagement Session
Mount Herman is a beautiful setting for couples who want their engagement photos to feel distinctly Colorado without sacrificing an elegant, romantic look.
The rugged landscape surrounding the trail provided a dramatic backdrop for Erin and Alec. Against the muted greens, rocks, and mountain scenery, Erin’s white dress created a beautiful visual contrast.
That contrast is one of my favorite things about photographing couples in Colorado. You don’t have to choose between adventure and elegance. A mountain engagement session can be sophisticated, romantic, and still feel authentically Colorado.
The evening light made everything even better.
As the sun began to lower, warm golden light fell across the landscape, creating soft highlights and giving the photographs that warm, romantic feeling that makes golden hour so popular for engagement sessions.
Engagement Photos With Your Dog
Theo, Erin and Alec’s Australian Shepherd, was more than happy to join the adventure.
He was also more than happy to model.
Including your dog in your engagement photos is a great way to make the session feel personal. For many couples, their dog is already part of their story, so bringing them along makes perfect sense.
Theo added an energetic, playful element to the session while also fitting right into the Colorado mountain setting.
If you’re considering bringing your dog to your engagement session, I always recommend planning a mixture of photos: some with your pup, some with everyone together, and some focused just on the two of you. That way, your final gallery has plenty of variety.
Two Outfits, Two Different Looks
Erin and Alec also changed into a second, more casual outfit for the latter part of their session.
This is a simple way to add variety to your engagement gallery without having to visit multiple locations.
The first outfit gave the session an elevated, editorial feeling. The second outfit was more relaxed and allowed Erin and Alec to settle into a casual evening together in the mountains.
